Linda Bui is the Executive Director and Co-founder of the Girls Empowerment Movement (GEM), a youth-led organization cultivating opportunities for youth in the Peel Region since 2013. She is currently the Government Relations Specialist at the Council of Ontario Universities, a forum for Ontario’s universities to collaborate and advocate in support of their shared mission to benefit students, communities and the province. Passionate about all things public policy, Linda has served municipally on citizen-based committees with the City of Brampton, served regionally as a Student Trustee at the Peel District School Board, worked provincially at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, and served internationally as a representative with the World Youth Parliament for Water. Currently in an Executive Masters program in Trauma and Violence Prevention at the Ortner Center of the University of Pennsylvania.

She is the Founder and CEO of Sacred Survivors International, social entrepreneurship. It is primarily a membership-funded Organization that hosts an Annual Summit at varying locations Internationally, poised to be the premier international women’s organization. It supports and resources survivors of all sexual and domestic violence-related crimes, including human trafficking and sex trafficking.

Highly intuitive and empathic, Laurel is particularly astute at creating safe places physically, mentally and emotionally post-trauma for women, children and intersex individuals.

Laurel works on her mandate with survivors relentlessly. When not engaged with her mandate, she is an artist, writer and poet. She is most energized when engaged both creatively and analytically.

Special guest, Susel Munoz.

Susel Munoz is the founder and director of HAACO Ontario. She is a Social Service Worker, Community Organizer, Advocate and York University Alumni. HAACO is a 100% volunteer initiative that focuses on providing community support and raising awareness about the challenges of parenting autistic and other neurodiverse children in minority groups, with a focus on Hispanic immigrant communities in Ontario. HAACO provides free talks and events targeted towards ethnic minority families, but they are free and open to all who wish to attend, and normally attend a wide array of families, autistic people, politicians of all stripes, and professionals. These include expert presentations on topics such as stigma, lack of support, misrepresentation, division, institutional racism, disability and mental health. In hosting these community events, HAACO creates a circle of support, which helps to overcome isolation and generate a sense of integration for these families and builds bridges of understanding and empathy across the diverse autism community.

Maidene Besson is a fashion stylist, personal shopper and image consultant.

For the past seven years, she has assisted women in her community towards finding a style that is uniquely theirs. A style that will inspire them to be the best version of themselves.

She believes that her innate sense of style is a gift from God and that she was called to work with women and girls. She aims to use her passion and sense of style to motivate, uplift and empower women and girls.

Maidene will assist in the areas of developing your own personal style and creating your personal brand. Whether it be in helping you find that perfect outfit to land your dream job or providing tips on how to present yourself on social media in a positive manner.

She is in the midst of revitalizing her business “stylnhead2toe.com” that she started in March of 2013. Her clientele is not limited to women and girls but extends to anyone who seeks the advice and services of a savvy stylist.

Currently, Maidene is most active on Instagram (@stylinhead2toe). She is in the planning stages of creating her YouTube channel, where she will focus on showcasing how to style on a budget, where to shop and when to shop, what’s trending in fashion and how to experiment with fashion and find your personal style.

Special guest, Dr Onye Nnorom.

Dr. Onye Nnorom is a Family Doctor and a Public Health & Preventive Medicine specialist. She is the Associate Program Director of the Public Health & Preventive Medicine Residency Program at the University of Toronto and is the Black Health Theme Lead for the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. As the Black Health Theme Lead, she is tasked with developing educational content for teaching medical students about Black Canadian health, and inequities due to systemic racism. She is also a clinical consultant for the Nicotine Dependence Clinic at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

She is the President of the Black Physicians’ Association of Ontario. She was also the chronic disease prevention lead at TAIBU Community Health Centre, where she led a number of successful cancer screening initiatives. Most recently she has taken the role as the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Lead, within the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. And she is the host of a podcast called Race, Health and Happiness where she interviews successful Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color, providing wisdom on how to stay well in a “racialized world”.

Dr. Nnorom completed her medical degree at McGill University and then completed a Masters of Public Health (Epidemiology) and residency training at the University of Toronto. Being of Nigerian and Trinidadian heritage, she is particularly interested in Black community health and wellness, and racism as a social determinant of health.
