Ingrid began her career in 1986 as a Constable with the Peel Regional Police where she worked in Uniform Patrol, Community Services, Race Relations and the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Bureau. She was promoted to Sergeant in 2002 where she worked in Media Relations and as a Patrol Sergeant. In 2007 Ingrid was promoted to Staff Sergeant where she worked in the Neighbourhood Policing Unit, Recruiting Bureau and as a platoon Staff Sergeant. Ingrid joined the senior officers’ rank in 2013 when she was promoted to Inspector. She worked in the Duty Inspectors’ office and Records Bureau. In 2016 she was promoted to Superintendent where she was the Officer in Charge of 21 Division. In 2018 she was promoted to Deputy Chief Field Operations where she oversaw the operations of the four operational Divisions; the Division responsible for Pearson International Airport and the Communications Bureau. Ingrid holds an honours diploma in Social Sciences from Seneca College, a Certificate in Management Studies from Sheridan College and a Masters in Leadership from the University of Guelph.
Retired Deputy Berkeley-Brown is the recipient of the Governor General’s Exemplary Service 20-year medal and 30-year First Bar and the Human Rights and Race Relations Centre Gold Medal award for outstanding contributions to the promotion of race relations. She is the recipient of the University of Guelph top 10×10 Alumni with Impact Award and the 2020 International Women Achievers’ Woman of Courage Award.
Ingrid is committed to youth and community development and she is actively involved with many cultural community organizations including the Caribbean Canadian Association of Waterloo Region and the Peel Family Mediation Services. Ingrid is the recipient of numerous awards and recognition for her work in the community including the ABLE Leadership Award and the African Canadian Achievement Award of Excellence.
During her tenure as a Deputy Chief, Ingrid was a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Human and Civil Rights Committee and; Co-chair of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
